Central Night Shelter - Sorella Volunteer Night
February 2008
by Aimee Murphy

On Wednesday, March 6th the women of Sorella Cycling provided dinner and sack lunches to 70 homeless men at Central Night Shelter in downtown Atlanta. The dinner consisted of fried chicken (a crowd pleaser), sweet potato casserole, cornbread, a colorful salad, fruit and homemade dessert. We had a great time preparing, serving the meal, and visiting with the shelter guests. Sorella Fella and Kitchen Manager, Rob Murphy was extremely impressed with the team work and great attitude of our Sorella volunteers.

Prior to our shelter night, we collected money at our annual Sorella Member Meeting to purchase t-shirts and socks for the men. The contributions were very generous. Sorella members from as far away as New Jersey and Vermont even sent donations by mail. We were able to raise over $800, which purchased a winter hat, socks, tshirt, and boxer shorts for each shelter guest. Then men were very touched by this unexpected gift.  A big thanks goes out to our members who cooked, served, cleaned and donated money!
